Breeder survey leads to new activities

The extensive KFPS breeder survey has been completed by 2654 people, 25% of contributors being members from foreign countries. Across the board the outcome is very positive and has also provided some leads for action. For instance, 60% of breeders are inclined to increase their number of broodmares. From the group of sportsmen-and women/recreational riders 80% admit to be interested in breeding, with 80% of them stating that they are able to combine sport and breeding.

Over 65% of breeders (60% of professional breeders) indicate that the proceeds don’t compensate for the costs involved. A third say they struggle to sell the foals and 65% indicate they would welcome more breeder meetings. The KFPS breeders think tank has used the results to add a number of activities to the planning. Like a ‘college tour breeding’ that will be organised in the next months. An online master class with experts on topics such as genetics, stallion choice and also a discussion evening with breeders. A day for new members will be organised as soon as the Covid 19 measures will allow. More ideas were put forward, information thereto will follow at a later stage. People who are interested can obtain an extensive report of the breeder survey at the Studbook office.
