On Thursday the 12th of January it was Jara fan Dulve Star (Alwin 469) who became Champion Mares in the Friesian Talent Cup 2023 in Leeuwarden. This 4-year-old mare is in ownership of Jeffrey and Mary Ann Marrs from the United States and was presented by lady rider Demi van Nuys. The Jury praised the mare for her self-posture and active hind leg.

High-quality horses

Just behind Jara and Demi came Janneke van de Wickeschliede (Menne 496), bred and owned by Stephanie Dietrich from Meinerzhagen and ridden by Ingeborg Klooster. The combination was complimented by the Jury for their pleasing cooperation and quality of movement. In third place we find Lobke fan der Byl Crown AAA (Alwin 469) and Lisanne Veenje, a combination with great quality in trot and canter but there’s still room for improvement in terms of power. Lobke’s owner is Willem Lokhorst from Ederveen who saw his trump card make it to the final.

Great enjoyment

The Jury of the Friesian Talent Cup, today consisting of Bart Bax, Kim Jacobi and guest judge Monique Peutz, were full of praise for the participating mares in the final of what is already the eighth edition of this competition for young horses. ‘All three of us have hugely enjoyed it, such high-quality horses in the arena! Some of them struggled a little with tension but the riders effortlessly managed that. It was a delight to judge this competition’, says a very pleased Monique Peutz.
