In consultation with Ids Hellinga, the Board of the Koninklijke Vereniging ‘Het Friesch Paarden-Stamboek’ (KFPS) has decided that Hellinga’s work as Director of the KFPS comes to an end after a period of 18 years.
For the future, the Board wishes to separate the management function of the Director and breeding-technical matters of the Society. This new structure is not in line with the current situation and therefore the decision was taken, in joint consultation, to take a different path. For the short term, current affairs will be transferred to the office organisation.
As a studbook we are very grateful to Ids Hellinga for all his work and commitment to the KFPS. With his huge knowledge of breeding and genetics he has made a major contribution to where the studbook stands now. Under his leadership, among other things, the serious threat of inbreeding levels in the Friesian breed was redirected to a safe margin and DNA tests have been developed to eliminate the hereditary disorders hydrocephaly and dwarfism. In addition, he has developed tools (breeding values) to be able to select more effectively for exterior, sport aptitude and character.
