With a first premium and Preliminary Crown predicate the 5-year-old Eatske van Coudenburgh Star (Alwin 469 x Tjalke 397) became Breeding Day Champion in Denmark on Saturday the 20th of August. The Reserve Title was for Crown mare Sjoeke van Ravenswoud Crown Sport AA (Wimer 461 x Anton 343), owned by Helle Fynbo. She moved her foreleg forward in impressive style but in terms of self-carriage had to acknowledge her superior in Pia Frank’s mare Eatske, whose form increased in the course of the day.

35th Jubilee DFF

The wonderful Helgstrand accommodation was the venue for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the DFF, the Dansk Frieser Forbund, and weather conditions too were fantastic. With around sixty horses listed in the catalogue, Sabien Zwaga, Ester Reen, Dik Brummel and Frans Smits carried out their inspections in two rings. The first premiums predominantly went to foals. Three colt foals received an orange rosette. Valdemar von Inger-Marienlund (Ulbrân 502 x Tsjalke 397), owned by Alex Mansson, Brande, Tsjerk f. Hyllested Ostergaard (Tiede 501 x Jehannes 484), owned by Hessel Jan Oosterhof from Suldrup and Timo af Birkely (Jehannes 484 x Jasper 366), owned by Miriam Diemer Petersen from Vejle. In the Champion inspection these colt foals were joined by yearling Quincy RW (Yme 507 x Haitse 425) who too, is owned by Hessel Jan Oosterhof.

The foals stood out but were a close match and even after a long day they still managed to give sprightly presentations. Timo’s good walk earned him the Reserve Championship, the Champion Title was for Tsjerk, whose dam is Gerbrecht van de Marne Star (Jehannes 484), the 2021 Danish Champion.

Elaia leader of the 4-year-old Studbook mares

Gerbrecht herself however, did not make it into the Champion inspection, but Geija van de Olde Mette Moate Star (Menne 496 x Sape 381) did put in an appearance. This 4-year-old mare is a half sister to Gerben 479 and the 7th Star for her dam. In the Champion inspection she could line up next to the leading mare of the 4-year-old Studbook mares. Elaia af Lien Star (Nane 492 x Ulbert 390) combined a strong walk with lots of expression and strong use of the hind leg in trot.

Two Model mares with a first premium

The two Model mares of the inspection were also invited into the Champion ring. The 18-year-old Odilia fan ‘e Suurdreed Model Pref AA (Wierd 409 x Oltman 317) and her 12-year-old daughter Hadewich Hyllested Ostergaard Model Sport A (Bente 412 x Wierd 409), in other words the dam and granddam of Yme 507, impressed with their durability and strongly trotted around the ring.
In the Champion election the Jury decided in favour of the younger horses. Eatske grew in the course of the competition. With an increasingly stronger trot and along with the Preliminary Crown predicate the Day Champion Title was a fantastic reward for her.
